Terms of Service

These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of the FilterAlternative® platform (the “Service”), operated by Moon Lab LLC, a Massachusetts limited liability company with its registered office at 145 Tremont Street, Suite 201, Boston, MA (“Moon Lab,” “we,” “us”). By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms.

1. The Service

FilterAlternative is a cross-reference search tool that helps you find verified equivalent filter products against our certified manufacturer database. Each equivalent is shown with a qualitative Scientific Assessment (for example, “Direct Equivalent” or “Compatible Alternative”) rather than a numeric score, consistent with our published design standards.

2. Accounts

You must provide accurate account information (email, country, and work role) and keep it up to date. Accounts are signed in by one-time email code rather than a password; you are responsible for keeping access to your registered email address secure. One account per individual — accounts may not be shared, resold, or used to circumvent the free-search limits described below.

3. Search credits and fees

An anonymous, unregistered visitor may run one free search. A free registered account includes ten full-detail searches. Once those are used, additional searches require purchasing a credit pack (for example, 50 searches for a one-time fee) through Stripe. Purchased credits are tied to your account, are non-transferable, do not expire unless we state otherwise at the time of purchase, and, because each credit is consumed only when a search successfully returns a result, are non-refundable once consumed. We may change pricing or the free-search allowance for new purchases or new accounts at any time; changes do not affect credits you have already purchased.

4. Payment

All payments are processed by Stripe, Inc. We do not receive or store your full card number. By making a purchase, you agree to Stripe's own terms of service in addition to these Terms.

5. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

• scrape, crawl, or bulk-extract data from the Service by automated means outside our published API;
• circumvent or attempt to circumvent free-search limits, rate limits, or account restrictions;
• resell, sublicense, or redistribute search results or underlying database content to third parties; or
• reverse-engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract the underlying scoring or matching logic.

6. Accuracy of results and your responsibility

Search results reflect our certified manufacturer database at the time of your query and are provided as decision-support information, not as a certified engineering or regulatory determination. You remain responsible for independently verifying fit, form, and function — and compliance with any applicable specification, regulation, or contract — before relying on a suggested equivalent in a production, safety-critical, or regulated context.

7. Intellectual property

The Service, the underlying database, and the FilterAlternative® name and mark are the property of Moon Lab LLC. We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use the Service and view search results for your own internal business purposes only. No other rights are granted.

8. Disclaimer of warranties

The Service is provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement, to the fullest extent permitted by law.

9. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Moon Lab's aggregate liability arising out of or relating to the Service will not exceed the amount you paid us in the twelve months preceding the claim. Moon Lab is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages.

10. Termination

You may stop using the Service and request account deletion at any time. We may suspend or terminate your account if we reasonably believe you have violated these Terms, including the acceptable-use restrictions above.

11. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the “Effective” date above and, where appropriate, notify you by email. Continued use of the Service after a change takes effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.

12. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, without regard to its conflict-of-laws principles.
